work physics ol Flashcards
What is the equation for work done?
“Work done = Force × Distance moved in the direction of the force (W = Fd)”
What are the SI units of work, force, and distance?
“Work: Joule (J)
If a force of 10 N moves an object 5 m in the direction of the force, what is the work done?
“W = Fd = 10 N × 5 m = 50 J”
What happens to the work done if the force doubles while distance remains the same?
“Work done doubles because W = Fd”
What happens to work done if the force remains constant but the distance is halved?
“Work done is halved because W = Fd”
In what condition is no work done on an object?
“No work is done if there is no displacement or the force is perpendicular to motion”
An object is pushed with 20 N over 3 m at an angle of 90° to the direction of motion. What is the work done?
“0 J (force is perpendicular to displacement)”
Describe an experiment to verify W = Fd.
“Use a Newton meter to measure force and a ruler to measure displacement. Apply a force to move an object a measured distance
Explain why carrying a heavy box at constant speed on a level floor does no work.
“The force (vertical) is perpendicular to motion (horizontal)
