Work , Energy And Power Flashcards
What is work?
The product of force and displacement, with the force and the displacement in the same straight line.
Conservative force
A force which the work done in moving an object between 2 points is independent of the path taken
Non-conservative
A force for which the work done in moving an object between 2 points depends on the path taken
Mechanical energy
The mechanical energy of an object is the sum of its kinetic and potential energies.
Isolated system
A system is isolated if the net external force acting on the system is zero(Fnet=0N)
The principle of conservation of mechanical energy
The total mechanical energy in a system which is isolated except for the gravitational force, is constant.
The work-energy theorem
The work done on an object by a net force is equal to the change in the objects kinetic energy.
Power
The rate at which work is done, or energy is expended.
