Work Flashcards
Work
Process by which energy is transferred from one system to another. One of only two ways Energy can be transferred.
W=F•d=Fdcosθ
Isovolumetric or Isochoric Process
When the volume stays constant in a system as pressure changes, no work is done.
Isobaric Process
When pressure remains constant as volume changes, then the area under the curve is calculated to determine the work.
W=PΔV
pressure volume curve with no curved areas
Neither pressure or volume remain constant in a system, so the total area under the graph shows the work.
Power (Watt=J/s)
Refers to the rate at which energy is transferred from one system to another
P=W/t=ΔE/t
Work-Energy Theorem
Expression of the relationship between work and energy.
Wnet=ΔK=Kf-Ki
