Functional capacity evaluation

A

An objective assessment of an individual’s ability to perform work related activity
Can be used to set goals for rehabilitation and readiness to return to work, assess residual work capacity, determine disability status, screen for physical compatibility before new hire
Review of medical records, interview, musculoskeletal screening, physical performance, formation of recommendations, generation of report

Can be all inclusive or job specific or injury specific

A

Concept of job duties or expected outcomes, not physical demands
Essential functions are what you do, not how you do it
Ex.) essential function of mail carrier is delivering mail not carrying the mail. If he cant carry it he could push it in the cart to accomplish the same outcome
