rapport (n)
Understanding and similar feelings that exist between people or groups.
Example:
Irene was able to establish a rapport with the people on the bus, talking to strangers as though they were long-lost friends.
passé (adj)
No longer in fashion
This dress is passé. No one wears it anymore
cache (n)
A collection of items hidden or stored away for future use.
Example:
The bears had discovered the campers’ food cache, making away with everything from sugar-coated cereal to beef jerky.
raconteur (n)
A skilled storyteller
Example:
He is such a natural raconteur that everyone gathers around when he starts telling stories
sortie (n)
An attack from a defensive position
Example:
1. The fighter jets launched several sorties over enemy territory before returning to base.
2. The troops launched a sortie to repel the advancing forces
3. They made a quick sortie into town to buy supplies
gauche (adj)
Clumsy and socially awkward
Example:
1. Though well meaning, her gauche behaviour often led to misunderstandings in formal settings.
2. It was bit gauche of him to interrupt the speaker during her presentation
3. I felt gauche wearing casual clothing to a formal event.
sangfroid (n)
Utter calmness and composure, especially under pressure.
Example.
Mr Jon’s sangfroid behaviour is admirable. He can be trusted to handle tasks even when deadlines are fast approaching
