Words around Deafness Flashcards
Deaf
Start with your pointer and middle fingers up and your other fingers in a fist. Tap the palm side of your fingers on your ear, then bring your hand around your face and tap your chin.
Hearing
Make a fist excluding your pointer finger. Tap your finger on your ear, then bring it round to your chin and tap twice.
Sign
Place both of your hands flat on their natural diagonals. Have your palms facing inwards and have your fingers an inch apart. Move your hands in verticle circles, but start them at different points so that when one of your hands is at your chest, the other is in front of you. Do a few rotations.
Language
Start with finger guns on both hands with your pointer fingers pointing forward. Swoop your hands down and twist your hands outwards so you finish with your palms facing outwards.
Auslan/Chat
Have one hand above your shoulder and one at your shoulder, with your top hand’s palm facing outwards, and your bottom hand’s palm facing yourself. Shake both hands back and forth like jazz hands.
Fingerspell/Spell
Press your fingers flat with your Thumb pressing from the bottom. Do this on both hands, then press them together. Wiggle your fingers while moving your hands from side to side. Go to one side, the other side, and stop as your rest in the middle of your chest.
Alphabet
Start with one hand flat with your fingers pointing upwards. Tap the base of your palm with your pointer finger. Move your tapping hand around your still hand, and tap your palm with all your fingers.
Voice
Bending at the knuckles, tap the base of your neck twice.
Lock your voice/Voice off
Create a hook with your pointer finger and rest it on your thumb. Place it at the base of your neck and twist.
Oral/Lip read
Create a V shape with your middle and pointer fingers and hook them. Place them in front of your mouth and rotate them around your mouth twice.
