The main point or message that an author wants to communicate in a text. It’s what the text is mostly about.
Central Idea
Facts, examples, or descriptions that explain, justify, or enhance the central idea of a text.
Supporting Details
A brief statement that includes the central idea and the most important details of a text without personal opinions or unnecessary information.
Summary
Presenting information or a summary without personal feelings, interpretations, or biases.
Objective
The way an author organizes information in a text, such as cause/effect, compare/contrast, or chronological order.
Text Structure
The reason the author wrote the text, which could be to inform, persuade, entertain, or explain.
Author’s Purpose
A logical conclusion or guess based on clues in the text and prior knowledge.
Inference
Information stated clearly and directly in the text without the need for interpretation.
Explicit Information
Information that is suggested but not directly stated in the text, requiring the reader to make inferences.
Implied Meaning
Restating information in one’s own words while keeping the original meaning, often used to clarify or summarize ideas.
