What is the Quick Access Toolbar?
a toolbar that contains buttons for frequently used commands
What will the ToolTip tell you when you point to a button?
the name of the command, a description, and if there is a keyboard shortcut
How do you quickly select a word?
double click it
How do you quickly select a line?
click once in the left margin
How do you quickly select a sentence?
control click
How do you quickly select a paragraph?
triple click on it
How do you quickly select the entire document?
triple click in the left margin
What is a hard return?
when you press enter and cause the curser to move to the next line
What is a soft return?
when you let the computer text wrap and decide when to move the curser to the next line
What does save do?
allows you to save with the same name to the same location
What does save as do?
allows you to save with a different name or in a different location or both
What does the show/hide button allow you see?
hidden characters such as hard returns, spaces, tabs, or indents
What does backspace do?
deletes one character to the left of the curser
What does control backspace do?
deletes one word to the left of the curser
What does delete do?
deletes one character to the right of the curser
What does control delete do?
deletes one word to the right if the curser
What is the purpose of a résumé?
a summary of your accomplishments, goals, education, work experience, and skills for either a job or a scholarship
What does the margin measure?
the distance from the edge if the page to where your text begins
What is a tab stop?
a place on the horizontal ruler that shows where the curser will jump to when you press the tab key

a repeating character connecting two columns of text
What are the three font styles?
bold, italicize, and underline
What does format painter allow you to do?
copy formatting from one type of text and put it on other text in the same document
What does superscript do?
makes the text smaller and puts it above the line
What does subscript do?
makes the text smaller and puts it below the line
What does small caps do?
makes all lowercase text small capitals
What does all caps do?
makes all text uppercase

creates and even left and right margin by inserting space between the words

How do you move up or down a level when formatting an outline?
increase indent and decrease indent buttons
What is an indent?
an additional amount of space between the margin and where the text begins
What is the purpose of shading?
makes text stand out by changing the background color
What does changing the scale of a character do?
stretches text out by scaling it more than 100%
