What is an adjective?
An adjective gives us extra info about nouns.
Example: the ✨beautiful✨English teacher.
What are evaluative adjectives?
They offer judgement on the noun being described.
Example: The student’s work was ✨awful✨
What are comparative adjectives?
They usually end in -er or have the word more in front of them. They make comparisons.
Example: You are ✨more stupid✨ than him.
You are ✨prettier✨ than her.
What are superlative adjectives?
They express the highest degree of a quality, and usually end in -est or have the word most in front of them.
Example: You are the ✨most stupid✨ person I have ever met.
Albert Einstein was the ✨smartest person✨
What are attributive adjectives?
They come before the noun they modify.
Example: Do you have any ✨available ✨rooms?
What are predicative adjectives?
They come after the noun (with a verb inbetween)
Example: do you know if this room is ✨available✨?
What are post- positive adjectives?
They come immediately after the noun.
Example: is this room available?
What is an adverb?
Give us extra info about verbs and adjectives. A word ending in -ly is often an adverb. This is not always the case though.
Example: He ran ✨quickly✨
What are adverbs of manner?
Describe the way in which something is done.
Example: the man kissed me ✨passionately✨ and i bit his lip ✨hard✨
What are adverbs of time?
Tell us the time that something happens or it’s frequency.
Example: I’ll see you ✨tomorrow✨
I go to the gym✨ regularly ✨
What are adverbs of degree?
Focus attention on what follows them.
Example: I am ✨particularly✨ annoyed but ✨mostly✨ okay
What are intensifiers?
They are adverbs of degree that intensify the meaning of a word.
Example: I am ✨so✨ angry and you are ✨very✨ annoying.
What are exclusive adverbs?
They focus attention on what follows them to the exclusion of all other possibilities.
Example: you ✨only✨interested in yourself.
It’s ✨just✨ a matter of time.
What are adverbs of place?
Tell us where something happens.
Example: I left my keys ✨somewhere✨
What’s re additive adverbs?
Add two or more items together.
Example: I like wine- my friend does ✨too✨
