a form of ambiguity in which a word has more than one meaning

ambiguous words that have a dominant vs. subordinate meaning
(ex: count)

A
- modular (autonomous) view
- interactive view

what is the modular view of lexically ambiguous words?

- multiple meanings of an ambiguous word when we see/hear it
- after we use context to narrow the activation to the appropriate meaning

what is the interactive view of lexically ambiguous words?
A
context that (strongly) biases interpretation toward one particular meaning would allow us to activate only the contextually appropriate meaning
