Properties of Wood

- lumber is wood that sawn and cut to standardized sizes
- engineered wood is plywood, laminated timber and MDF
- heartwood (center), sapwood (outer layers)

Wood Flooring
A
- Solid wood flooring: tongue and groove
- Laminated wood flooring: only top layer is made of hardwood (finished and unfinished)
- Plywood: manufactured from thin sheets of cross-laminated vener and bonded under heat and pressure with strong adhesives
- MDF: uses wasted wood fibers bonded with resin; very smooth finish (wheat and strawboard are alternatives)
