Various Types of Stone

A

Sedimentary: rock formed in layers by water or air

  • Limestone - buff/gray
  • Travertine - holes filled with epoxy resin to make smooth, light cream color
  • Flagstone - cut from sandstone, naturally rough

Metamorphic: (sedimentary or igneous rock altered by heat and pressure)

  • Slate - fine grained, used for roofing, dark
  • Marble - layers of shells which under heat and pressure form in a composition of crystalline grains of calcite and dolomite; range of oclors; high maintenance

Igneous: (solidified molton rock)
- Granite - hard, durable low maintenance

  • Thermale (flamed) - intense flaming
