How important was World War One in allowing women to get the vote in 1918?
World War One was important in allowing women to get the vote in 1918 because it challenged the genders classic stereotypes, moving away from the term ‘Angel of the House’ (which was given to women who had to take care of children, washing, cooking and the obeying of the husband and father). This all proved worthiness in working in society because it proved that they were equally as useful and efficient if not 2x than men.
What methods did the Suffragettes use to campaign for the vote?
Night-time arson, bomb attacks, hunger strikes when arrested and attacking postmen with acid.
What were the Suffragists?
Suffragists were a large group of people who wanted the vote for women and voiced this through peaceful protests, debates and meetings. Led by Millicent Fawcett and 50,000 members.
Who were the Suffragettes?
A group of 5,000 women who wanted the vote for women who voiced their opinions through direct physical attacks.
Why did the Suffragettes begin to use violence?
To show they were MORE then ‘Angel of the House’
To show dedication
To not feed into their typical stereotypes.

A person who wants more people to have the vote, especially women, through peaceful demonstrations.

A person seeking the right to vote using organised protests, someties with destructive or violent actions.
