A violent protest group, formed in 1903. They disrupted meetings, chained themselves to downing street, etc.
What were some ways that women were unfairly treated in the 1800s and early 1900s?
Respected scientists said things like “In every excellent characteristic, whether mental or physical, the average woman is inferior to the average man. Even in physical beauty the man is superior,” they were expected to do house work, couldn’t vote.
What did the newspapers say about the Suffragette movement?
They blamed them for the violence and portrayed them as the enemy, polarising the public and causing them to be anti the movement.
