Breast screening schedule

A
  • Asymptomatic women aged 50-69 every 2 years
    • Self Breast Examination – not recommended BUT
    • Encourage all women to be aware of how their breasts normally look and feel, and promptly report any new or unusual changes (such as a lump, nipple changes, nipple discharge, change in skin colour, or pain in a breast) to their GP

Cervical Cancer Screening Schedule

A
  • Asymptomatic women who have ever been sexually active.
    • Every 2 years.
    • Start at age 18-20, or 1-2 years after first sexual intercourse whichever is later.
    • Cease at age 70 if 2 normal smears in past 5 years.
    • Follow NHMRC guidelines for managing abnormalities

Pap smear results

A
  • Negative -> repeat smear in 2 years
    • LSIL (atypia, HPV change, CIN 1) -> repeat smear in 12 months
    • HSIL (CIN II, CIN III) -> colposcopy (Coloscopy is a tissue biopsy)
    • Glandular changes -> colposcopy
    • Unsatisfactory results -> repeat smear in 6-12 weeks

LSIL/HSIL low grade/ high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion
