The Treaty of London
1518- proposed peace between England, France and Spain. Declaring war on one nation would automatically put them at war with the other.

Gave Henry the prestige he sought and elevated England’s status as an emerging power
France and Spain were at war by 1521- a couple of years after Charles I/V was declared the Holy Roman Emperor

1920- Meeting between Francis I and Henry- took place near Calais. Both leaders took the opportunity to make grandiose displays of wealth

For Henry, he was seen as being on equal grounds to a European superpower, and felt that this meeting highlighted his status as a prestigious leader
