What is Race?
Historical and social construction used to refer to specific population, who are thought to share certain characteristics; characteristics are thought to be inherent, physical and permanent.
What is Ethnicity?
It means shared history, traditions, values an other attributes that make people feel as though they are members of a certain ethnic group.
What is Culture?
Shared values, attitudes and expectations that people who regards themselves of the same social grouping share.

What is the Ecological Systems Perspective?
To view individuals/families in the context of their transactions to various environments such as physical space, geographic location and to broader sociopolitical context that shape the mental, physical and social functioning.
What is the Strength Perspective?
To give attention to the cultural strength and resilience that clients exhibit in their efforts to overcome challenges. Shifting focus away from negative stereotypes and narratives that may be associated with their culture, ethnic or racial background.
What is the Social Justice Perspective?
Respect for human rights and the clients basic dignity. Gives attention to the social injustices embedded in acts of discrimination and oppression experienced by clients.
What is the Critical Perspective?
Acknowledges the matrix of domination; race, gender and class in shaping the experiences of diverse clients.
What is Intersectionality Perspective?
Understanding that the human cultural experiences complex and that an individuals identity may be shaped by intersecting factors including race, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexual orientation, age and ability/disability status.
What is Anti Oppressive Practice?
Theory that inequitable conditions created by lagers systems lead to power imbalances. Centers the experience of equity-deserving groups in order to build structures and systems that work for everyone.
What is Critical Race Theory?
Focuses on prejudice and structured disadvantages across American Society. Explores the role that the law plays in establishing practices of exclusion and disadvantage and recognises that systemic racism is part of society and challenges the beliefs that allow it flourish.
