What is social welfare?
Benefits and services provided by government or NGO’s e.g pension, childcare allowances
What is fiscal welfare?
Benefits through taxation systems eg tax breaks and tax allowances for dependent children
What is occupational welfare
Benefits received through employment such as sick pay, exspense accounts, company cars
What is redistribution?
Transfer of resources; money, services & tax concessions from the state to individuals, families and organisations.
What are the contested concepts in social policy; and what do they mean?
Risk; What are the main causes of typical life course risked experienced by individuals and are they extrinsic or intrinsic.
Responsibility; is concerned with who is responsible for ensuring citizens wellbeing, in the face of social risks, does this lie with the government, citizens or both.
Entitlement: What entitlements should be provided by state?
Eligibility: What is criteria necessary for citizens to access entitlements.
Redistribution: How is the redistribution of goods and services organised eg financial, hospital
