Agents:
- Things that are self-propelled, have eyes, react systematically to one’s behaviour (imitating, following someone’s gaze).
- Moving objects in the world that can act on their own.
Intentionality:
An agent performing a behaviour intentionally (with skill and awareness and executing an intention (based on a desire and relevant beliefs).
Imitation:
The human tendency to observe other people’s behaviour and do as they do.
Mimicry:
a type of imitation; Copying others’ behavioUr, usually without awareness.
Synchrony:
a type of imitation; Two people displaying the same behavioUrs or having the same internal states (typically because of mutual mimicry).
Joint attention:
Two people attending to the same object and being aware that they both are attending to it.
Visual perspective taking:
Can refer to adopting another person’s spatial viewpoint and determining how the world looks from their perspective or, more generally, trying to infer the other person’s thoughts, desires, emotions.
Stimulation:
The process of representing the other person’s mental state.
Ex: “What would it feel like sitting across from the stern interrogator? would I feel scared . . .”
Projection:
the assumption that other people’s wants, knows, or feels the same as how you want, know, or feel.
Explicit mental state inference:
determining what other people think and feel.
