what is Le fort 1?
- fracture through floor of antra and nasal septum
- may show tooth in base of maxillary antrum
what is le fort 2?
- transverse fracture through bridge of nose and ethmoid
- oblique fracture from inferolateral margin of antra to floor of orbits
what is le fort 3?
- fracture through medial and lateral walls
- zygomatic arches, cribriform plat and base of pterygoid producing free maxilla
functions of paranasal sinuses
- humidifying and warming inspired air
- regulation of intranasal pressure
- increasing surface area of olfaction
- lightening the skull
- resonance
- absorbing shock
- contribute to facial growth
