Q

What are the considerations to be made prior dispatch if you are flying to a destination with cold weather conditions?

A
  • Dispatch RTOW
  • Dispatch RLW
  • Tankering yes/no
  • RWY state
  • Alternates
  • Crosswind limits based on Braking Action (BA)

Q

What/Where is frost acceptable on the aircraft during the walk around?

A
  • Thin hoar frost on upper surface of fuselage
  • <3mm of frost allowed UNDER the wing around the fuel tanks (not allowed ON the wing)
  • Frost on the Radome (but NOT snow and ice)
  • Frost on the engine exterior surfaces (but NOT snow and ice. This has to be removed with hot-air or fluid)

6
Q

How should fan blade ice be removed when encountered during the walk around?

A

Call MOC for guidance. Normally and engineer should do this with hot air

7
Q

If there is a disagreement between the ground handling / de-icing company (DIO) about whether de-icing is required; to resolve the conflict, what should be done?

A

Tactile check should be performed

Q

If a take off from a contaminated runway is prepared, what should you select for the CONFIG in your FlySmart perf?

What effect does this have?

A

OPT CONF (should be selected)

A higher flap setting increases RWY limited take off weight but decreases second segment limited takeoff weight

13
Q

How would you check for ice on wings/fin/THS?

A

Wings: from the window at the emergency exit. Check the black lines and leading edges
Fin: from the back stairs or outside from the ground
THS: from the back stairs or outside from the ground

In doubt, call engineer with ladder

16
Q

What do you need to do when taxiing in icing conditions with precipitation and/or contaminated taxiways/runways?

What is the best way to do this?

A

Keep the flaps up. Select the flaps just prior to take off to avoid contamination of the mechanisms

Hold the BEFORE TO checklist at FLAP SETTING and finish it after extending the flaps/slats

17
Q

Can you remotely de-ice with engines running?

A

Yes

18
Q

Below which speed does anti-skid NOT work?

A

<20 kts

19
Q

Rwy width normally is 45m. Today it has been cleared of contamination with only 30m wide. Do you need to apply corrections for take off?

A

No

20
Q

Is take off allowed on ICY runway with braking action POOR?

A

No

21
Q

From which temperature SHOULD crew correct target altitudes defined in OMA?

A

-10*C

22
Q

If ice accretion VAPP must not be lower than?

What is the increment on landing distance?

A

VLS + 5 kts CONFIG FULL (1.1 x landing distance)

VLS + 10 kts CONFIG 3 (1.15 x landing distance)

23
Q

What is the FO handling limit with regards to LND and TAKE OF on contaminated runways?

A
  • NO TAKE OFF/LANDING on contaminated or slippery

- 45m min width

24
Q

Is AUTOLAND permitted on a 45m wide runway that is contaminated and cleared with only 30m?

A

Yes

25
Q

Is automatic roll out allowed on an autoland on a contaminated runway?

A
  • It has not been demonstrated on snow covered or icy runways
  • In this case: CAT IIIa with no roll-out
26
Q

If landing on contaminated runway, what should you NOT do when leaving the runway?

A

Do not select FLAPS O. Engineer should check wing first

27
Q

Can you do OETI when taxiway is slippery/contaminated?

A

No
