DE-ICING Flashcards
On the ground, when MUST ENG anti-ice be selected ON?
OAT < 10*C and visible moisture present decreasing visibility to 1 Nm (1600m) or less
What does LOUT stand for with regards to de-icing fluids?
Lowest Operational Use Temperature
If you expect to need a long HOT in icing conditions on the ground prior departure, what is the recommended de-icing procedure?
2 step de-icing/anti-icing
When should ANTI-ICING be applied?
Any form of freezing precipitation (either falling or expected prior departure)
What is CM1’s good practice to perform prior de-icing with regards to the passengers?
Make a PA and explain the procedure to comfort them
What de-icing/anti-icing fluids are allowed to be used?
- Heated water (de-icing only as part of 2 step procedure)
- Type I
- Mixture of Type I and water
- Type II
- Type IV
- Mixture of Type II and water
- Mixture of Type IV and water
Must de-icing fluids always be heated?
Must anti-icing fluids always be heated?
- YES
- NO (may be applied cold on clean wing surfaces)
What is a Pre-Take Off Contamination Check (WING CHECK)
If the HOT has been exceeded the flight crew may do a WING CHECK from the cabin to check if the fluid is still effective (glossy, smooth and wet)
If negative (precipitation adhering to the A/C or fluid has become in-effective (murky)) take off is prohibited and de-icing and anti-icing must be done again
