Key Factors in Determining Quality of Wine
- Type of grape Variety
- Soil: best are poor, well-drained and on hillsides
- Climate: warm dry growing season with cool/cold, wet winters
- Winery resources & equipment
- Blending of Wines from different parcels
- Aging of Wine
To Describe Wine ( Crucial)
-Sweetness-most wines have very little sugar, the ripeness or fruit flavor profile makes them sweet
-Dry-absence of sugar; a completely non sweet flavor; can be enhanced by tannins (which give a drying sensation to wine
-Off Dry- some touch of sweetness:; often balanced by acidity
-Sweet- obvious sweetness, coats your mouth
To describe wine (Crucial)
BODY- WAY A WINE FEELS IN YOUR MOUTH
•Light body-akin to skim milk in texture
•Medium Body- whole milk or half & half
Full Body- like heavy cream, rich & mouth filling
Fruitiness- Absence or presence of fruit
•Pronounced- fruit is driving the bus
•Moderate- fruit is in balance with non fruit elements
•Light- Minerality, earth, floral, or herbal is more significant than the fruit component
