WINDSHEAR AHEAD Memory Items Flashcards
Initial consideration
The “W/S AHEAD” message is displayed on each PFD. The color of the message depends on the severity and location of the wind shear.
Second consideration
Note: When a predictive wind shear alert (“WINDSHEAR AHEAD” or “GO AROUND WINDSHEAR AHEAD”) is triggered, if the flight crew makes a positive verification that no hazard exists, then the alert may be disregarded as long as:
- There are no other signs of possible wind shear conditions, and
- The reactive wind shear system is operational
Known cases of spurious predictive wind shear alerts have been reported at some airports, during either takeoff or landing, due to the specific obstacle environment.
Always rely on any reactive wind shear alerts, however (“WINDSHEAR”)
W/S AHEAD RED (Take Off) Indication
Associated with an aural synthetic voice “WINDSHEAR AHEAD, WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
W/S AHEAD RED Before Takeoff
Delay takeoff, or select the most favorable runway
W/S AHEAD RED During takeoff run
Reject takeoff
Note: Predictive wind shear alerts are inhibited above 100kt until 50’
W/S AHEAD RED When airborne steps
THR LEVERS - TOGA
SRS ORDERS - FOLLOW
W/S AHEAD RED When airborne considerations
The slat/flap configuration can be changed provided the wind shear is not entered.
Use full backtick if required
Note:
1) If engaged, the autopilot disengages when Alpha is greater than Alpha Prot
2) If the FD is not available, use an initial pitch attitude up to 17.5 deg. If necessary, to minimize the loss of height, increase this pitch attitude.
W/S AHEAD RED When landing indications
Associated with an aural synthetic voice “GO AROUND, WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
W/S AHEAD RED When landing steps
GO AROUND - PERFORM
W/S AHEAD RED When landing considerations
Use full backtick, if required
Note:
1) If engaged, the autopilot disengages when Alpha is greater than Alpha Prot
2) If the FD is not available, use an initial pitch attitude up to 17.5 deg. If necessary, to minimize the loss of height, increase this pitch attitude.
W/S AHEAD AMBER
Apply precautionary measures, as indicated int the supplementary techniques.
