Q

How is severe windshear defined?

A

A rapid change in wind direction and/or velocity that results in airspeed changes greater than 15 kt or vertical speed changes greater than 500 ft/min

Q

What precautions must be taken whenever windshear is suspected during takeoff?

A

Use normal takeoff thrust (use of reduced thrust is prohibited).

Use flaps 8, if performance allows.

Use the longest runway available with the lowest possibility of a windshear encounter.

Monitor airspeed trend during takeoff.
Consider an RTO when evidence of windshear exists before V1.

Closely monitor the vertical flight path and call out any deviations.

Do not engage the autopilot when windshear is reported or suspected.
