DriftDown Flashcards
1
Q
What is the purpose of the driftdown profile following an engine failure?
A
To keep the airplane altitude as high as possible during descent.
2
Q
What does Method 1 of driftdown flight planning require?
A
Clear obstacles along the filed routing by 1,000 ft.
3
Q
What does Method 2 of driftdown flight planning require?
A
Clear enroute obstacles by 2,000 ft to the nearest suitable airport.
4
Q
In Method 2, what may the nearest suitable airport be?
A
Departure, destination, or a driftdown alternate.
5
Q

Q
DRIFTDOWN PROCEDURE
A
- Set maximum continuous thrust
- Refer to the speed cards for driftdown performance speed (When unable to hold altitude, decelerate to VENR)
- Use ice protection equipment only when necessary
- Proceed to the nearest suitable airport for landing. When unsure of terrain clearance, divert to the driftdown airport listed on the flight release using Method 1 or 2 procedures as appropriate.
- Refer to the AeroData Performance Handbook for additional information.
