Windshear Flashcards
Windshear
WDR TOPR
- WS Thrust Prompt
- Use highest flap setting available
Windshear
Recommended Approach Flap Setting
Flaps 30
Wind Shear Recognition
- 15 kt airspeed
- 500 fpm VVI
- 5 degrees pitch
- 1 dot Glide Slope displacement
- unusual thrust lever position for significant time
PF Windshear Escape Maneuver
- AP & AT - OFF
- TO/GA - Press
- Max Thrust
- Wings Level & 15 degrees initial Pitch
- Follow F/D guidance
- Retract Speed Brakes
- Do not change Flaps / Gear until out of WS
- Monitor VVI and Altitude
- Do not attempt to regain lost airspeed until out of WS
PM Windshear Escape
- Assure Max Thrust
- Verify all actions complete; call out omissions
- Advice WS Guidance is activated
- Monitor VVI and Altitude
- Call out trend toward terrain, descending flight path, or significant airspeed changes
Predictive Windshear Caution
CAWS Warning & Phase of Flight Actions
” MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY “
* Prior to V1 - Reject
* After Takeoff - Maneuver to avoid WS
* On Approach - WS Escape or normal G/A
Predictive Windshear Warning
CAWS Warning & Phase of Flight Actions
” WINDSHEAR AHEAD, WINDSHEAR AHEAD “
* Prior to V1 - Reject
* After Takeoff - perform WS Escape
Predictive Windshear Warning
CAWS Warning & Phase of Flight Actions
“GO-AROUND, WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
* On Approach - WS Escape or normal G/A
WS at or near V1 w/airspeed stagnation or decrease & insufficient runway to left to stop
- Ensure Max Thrust
- At VR but NLT 2,000’ remaining initiate normal rotation towards 15 degrees even if airspeed is low
- Once airborne, perform WS Escape Maneuver
Post Windshear Considerations
- Set Thrust & Pitch for phase of flight
- Establish aircraft config for phase of flight
- Re-establish automation
- Windshear PIREP to ATC
- Complete normal checklists (After Takeoff)
