- Gold leaf and laplis lazuli (expensive blue pigment made from crushed precious stones).
- Considered realistic depiction of figures, King Richard especially. (Still oddly separate tho)

Courts of Europe. Artists travelled freely making devotion objects for monarchs and aristocrats (for worship)
What is beginning to change in this era that affects the history of art?
The expense was becoming more about the skill of the artist than the cost of materials used and the magnificence of final piece.
Growing middle classes (lawyers and merchants due to advances in bookkeeping and navigation) want to show of wealth through art collection.
