They burned homes to the ground, they killed villagers animals and they destroyed the villagers tools and food supplies.

It’s when somebody gives you land for an oath of loyalty or soldiers or money.

How much tax people had to pay.

A
They looked at how much money you had, how many animals you owned, how much land you owned and how big your house was.

A
Because there were rebels up there killing the Normans, and he wanted to show them how powerful he was.
