Tropical Rainforest
Woodland of a usually rather mild climactic area within the temperate zone that receives heavy rainfall.
Temperate Rainforest
Occur in northern hemisphere where weather is warm during summer and has mild winters. Dominated by trees that lose their leaves each year.
Temperate Deciduous Forest
Sometimes swampy coniferous forests of high northern latitudes.
Taiga
A grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions with few trees.
Savanna
An area in which the natural vegetation consists largely of perennial grasses.
Temperate Grassland
Vegetation consisting chiefly of tangled shrubs and thorny bushes.
Chaparral
This ecosystem is formed by a large lack of water. Very hot and dry.
Desert
A vast, flat, treeless region. The subsoil is permanently frozen.
Tundra
An a small or large inland body of water with either a high or low depression
Lakes and Ponds
Areas that can be wooded. Consist largely of water. Very Muddy.
Marsh and Swamps
A natural system of water flowing into a body of water.
Rivers
The tidal mouth of a large river, where the tide meets the stream.
Estuaries
A ridge of rock in the sea that houses organic matter of which parts have solidified into limestone.
Coral Reefs
Also known as the pelagic zone. A large expanse of open water.
Open Ocean
Near the shore of a large body of water where sunlight penetrates to allow aquatic plants to grow.
Littoral Zone
The ecological region at the lowest level of a body of water.
Benthic Zone
A species that inhabits an area where it did not previously inhabit. Usually harmful.
Invasive Species
A species that has few remaining in its population.
Endangered Species
Many different species that completely die out.
