A

In the third act lady Bracknell recognises miss prism, cecily’s governess: she ahs been her dead sister governess that disappeared with her sister’s baby. Miss prism confesses that she had accidentally put the baby in a handbag she had forgot in Victoria station. Upon this revelation jack shows a handbag in which he was found as a baby. This means that jack is her nephew and algenon’s brother, after further enquiry is found out that his original name was indeed Ernest.

This artistic trends of aestheticism stressed disengagement and unconventional or openly scandalous behaviour. At the same time decadent artist detested the values and the hypocrisy of the middle class (they criticize the Victorian compromise). Throughout Europe the decadent artist professed the cult of beauty as the supreme value in art and life. Art for art’s sake was the battle cry or maxim .
