Wide Aewa Systems Flashcards
What is a WAN
A network that uses various links - private lines, VPNs, cellular, the internet - to connect LANs in diverse locations into a single, distributed network.
Characteristics of Falcon:
. Wide area system
- resilient routing meshed network
. Local area system
- IP voice telephony, network access point
. Interface and interoperability systems
- interface with other external systems for voice and data communications
. Security sub-systems
- a combination of high grade packet encryption within LAS and high grade link encryption over the WAS bearers
. Management sub-systems
- remote and local management of all WAS and LAS. Comms equipment
Falcon Architecture:
. WASP
. CPS
. FMI
. CSV
Anchorpoints: corsham, innsworth
WASP
Wide area switching point - creates a robust, flexible and redundant backbone to the FALCON network
CPS
Command post support - provides staff users (officers) with voice services using VoIP phones
FMI
FALCON Management Installations - responsibility for managing all FALCON assets within their AOR
CSV
Communications support vehicle - a help desk and technical support function to a deployed FALCON network
Other WAS architectures:
. Leased Lines
. Circuit Switching Network
. Packet Switching Network
Leased lines:
Provides customers with private, secure, dedicated P2P connection up to 64Gbps
Circuit Switching Network
System terminates the connection once a call, that is initialised by the user, ends.
Packet Switching Network
Network providers are able to optimise physical infrastructures built to support WAN, by creating smaller data packets which contain parts of a whole message. Each packet contains the source and destination address to facilitate data transmission.
Common operational frequency bands
. Planning range
. Frequency range
Planning range:
Falcon band 1: up to 50km
Falcon band 3+: up to 50km( for links over 20km the RFU is remotes to the base of the mast)
Falcon band 4: up to 30km(possibly 45km for very low loss links or at a lower data rates)
Frequency range (MHz):
Falcon band 1: 225 - 400
Falcon band 3+: 1350 - 2690
Falcon band 4: 4400 - 5000
