Why is Jesus God ? Flashcards
John 10:30
I and the Father are one
What did Jesus say In John 10:30 and what did he mean ?
In John 10:30, Jesus said, “I and the Father are one,” directly linking Himself with God the Father and thus claiming deity
Did Jesus say the exact words I am God ?
While Jesus did not say the exact words, “I am God,” He did clearly say He is God in a way that those who listened to Him would understand. How do we know they understood? By their reaction.
John 10:31
Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him
What was the jews reaction to Jesus claims to be God?
When He asked them why they were attempting to stone Him, they said, “For blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God’
John 10:33
Why did the Jews want to stone Jesus ?
Stoning was the penalty for blasphemy (Leviticus 24:16), and the Jews plainly accused Jesus of claiming to be God.
Leviticus 24:16
’ anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.’
So the Jews were clearly understanding Jesus’ claim to be God.
John 1 -2
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
John 1: 14
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth
John 1:14 is act of incarnation. Define incarnation
the act of being made flesh
