Parents spend less time reading to their sons as its seen as a feminine activity (gender stereotypes)
Why are boys attitudes towards reading ?
Boys see reading as a predominantly feminine activity which is not real work and to be avoided at all costs, becoming uninterested in reading from about the age of 8 ( girls are the main consumers of reading istead)
What are the problems of boys leisure activities and how does this differ to girls ?
Boys’ leisure activities don’t encourage language and communication (sports and games)
Whereas, girls adopt a ‘bedroom culture’- staying in working.
What do girls advanced literacy skills mean for their education in relation to boys ?
This means that girls are better than boys at handling and understanding reading in those subjects- because language and literacy are important in most subjects it affects their overall school performance
