Explain the situation the Continental Navy at the end of the Revolutionary war.
The continental navy had to sell their last remaining Ship (Alliance) in 1785 as they could not afford the upkeep of the Navy.
Explain who the barbary states were and how they obtained their income.

They obtained income by blackmailing sailing ships on trade routes by offering safe passage, if they refused to pay they captured crews and ships.
Explain what the Constitution of the United States authorized the government to do in relation to its military branches.
1789 Constitution of the United States authorized congress to establish a Navy.
Describe how the war in Europe during the 1790’s contributed to the creation of the U.S. Navy.
The US needed to defend trade routes from France and Britain. The Barbary states were seizing American sailors and vessels and we needed to prevent that.
