Why did the Wall Street Crash affect Germany so much?

A

The US called in all foreign loans after the Wall Street Crash; Stresemann had borrowed 800 million marks as part of the Dawes Plan in 1924. Businesses did not have the money to pay the loans back so went bankrupt leading to mass unemployment.

Q

Why did Wall Street Crash increase support for the Nazi Party?

A

The Weimar Republic could not agree on how to fix Germany’s economic problems, people lost confidence in democracy and turned to extremist parties like the Communists and Nazis.

The SA attacked Hitler’s opponents and made the Nazi’s look organised in a time of chaos.

Rich businessmen feared the rise of communism so funded Hitler’s propaganda campaigns.

Goebbels’ propaganda was very effective. They targeted specific groups of society with different slogans and policies to win their support.
