What caused the Munich Putsch?
Hitler felt he could take advantage of people’s unhappiness with the government because of hyperinflation.
Stresemann was cracking down on extremist parties like the Nazi party, Hitler felt he needed to act quickly.
Hitler was inspired by Mussolini who had taken control of Italy by marching on Rome.
What happened during the Munich Putsch?
Hitler and 600 SA members stormed a local government meeting in a beer hall in Munich.
He forced the Bavarian Prime Minister Kahr to support his revolution to take over Munich and then march on Berlin. He then let the leaders go home.
Kahr called in police and army reinforcements. When the Nazis marched into the city centre the next day 16 Nazis were killed. Hitler fled, but was arrested two days later.

Hitler used his trial to gain national publicity. He was sentenced to 5 years but only served 9 months. The Nazi party was banned
He wrote ‘Mein Kampf’ in prison. Millions of Germans read it, and Hitler’s ideas became very well-known.

Why did the Nazi Party have limited success until 1929?
