it claimed that Britain would lose 60% of its trade if slavoury was abolished and therefor tax revinue

slaves on plantations where considered property and could not be taken from their owners
the government feared the plantation owners would demand compensation and they could not afford it
With an end too the cheap labour of slavery there would be a huge impact on prices and production rates
it was argued british people would not be prepared too pay higher prices for the goods made by former slaves
