What does the solicitor do?
Help people do things legally like buying a house, give legal advice and speaks in courts for clients
What does a barrister do?
Studies the law intensively, often represents people in court and gives legal advice with a solicitor
What can a judge do?
Decide on child custody disputes, caution people and send people for medical/ psychological treatment/ testing
What does the jury do?
Any citizen 18+ that decides if the defendant is guilty with the other jury
What is the foreperson in the jury?
Like a chairperson and reads out the verdict
How many people are on the jury?

What does the Court Clerk/ Registrar do?
Records the judge’s decisions and makes people swear oaths
Who is the Tipstaff/ Judge’s Usher?
The assistant to the judge and says ‘all rise’ when the judges enters and leaves the room
Who is the defendant/ accused?
Suspected of committing a crime and has a legal representative
Who is the prosecutor?
Tries to prove the law has been broken
What does the Garda do?
Makes the court safe and arrests people
Who is the witness?
States what they saw or their expertise on a subject
