Seat height/leg length measurement:
measure from user’s heel to popliteal fold + 2 inches. If cushion is used, do not add 2 inches Footrest should be at least 2 inches from floor
Seat depth measurement:
measure from user’s posterior buttock, along lateral thigh to the popliteal fossa, - 2 inches
Seat width measurement:
measure the widest aspect of the user’s buttocks, hips, or thighs, + 1.5 inches
Back height measurement:
measure from the seat of the chair to the floor of the user’s axilla, their shoulder flexed at 90 degrees, -4 inches
armrest height measurement:
measure the seat of the chair to the olecranon process with the user’s elbow flexed to 90 degrees, + 1 inch
Seat height/leg length confirmation:
With LE resting on the leg rest; a proper fit will allow you to place 2-3 fingers easily under the pt’s thigh near the edge of the seat, while maintaining your hand parallel to the floor Foot rest is at least 3 fingers (2 inches) from the floor
Seat depth confirmation:
proper fit will allow 2-3 fingers to be placed between the edge of the seat and user’s popliteal fold with your palm horizontal to the seat/floor
Seat width confirmation:
both hands vertically between hip, thigh, and armrest panels
Back height confirmation:
4 fingers between top of seat back and floor of axilla
Armrest height confirmation:
observe for erect trunk and level shoulders. a triangle should form posterior aspect of user’s humerus, top of armrest, and frame of chair back
