Describe the terms of the Treaty of St. Germain [4]
The Treaty of St. Germain with Austria happened on the 10th of September 1919. The Republic of Austria had to accept that the Austro-Hungarian empire was breaking up. Austria had to recognize the independence of Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Poland. The territory from Austria had to be transferred to Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, Italy, and Romania. Finally, the union between Germany and Austria was forbidden. 3 million Sudeten Germans now lived under the Czech rule as well as their army being reduced to 30,000.
Describe the terms of the Treaty of Trianon [4]
The Treaty of Trianon happened with Hungary on the 4th of June 1920. Hungary had to accept the break up of the Austro-Hungarian empire, as well as needing to recognize the independence of the new countries Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. Territories for the former empire were transferred to Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Romania. More than 70% of its territory and one-third of its people were lost in this treaty as well as being deprived of its seaports. This essentially made the country a locked nation. The country was supposed to pay reparations but was so poor that they couldn’t do so, their army was reduced to 35,000.
Describe the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly [4]
The Treaty of Neuilly happened on the 27th of November 1919 and was with Bulgaria. Bulgaria had to accept the independence of Yugoslavia and lost territory to Greece, Yugoslavia, and Romania. To Bulgarians, the treaty was regarded as a National catastrophe. This really took a blow to Bulgaria’s national pride and their country faced an uncertain future. Their army was limited to 20,000; their reparations were 100,000 pounds. They also lost access to the Mediterranean.
Describe the terms of the Treaty of Sevres [4]
The Treaty of Sevres happened with Turkey on August 10th, 1920. Turkey had to recognize the independence of the Kingdom of Hejaz (later to form a part of Saudi Arabia) and Armenia. The territory was given to Greece and Italy. No reparations but finances controlled by Allies. Their army was restricted to 50,000 people. Palestine, Jordan, and Iraq were now under British control previously being a part of the Ottoman empire. Dardenelle Strait was lost.
Describe the terms of the Treaty of St. Lausanne [4]
The Treaty of St. Lausanne happened with Turkey on July 24th, 1923. Turkey had fought against the harsh treaty that they were dealt so in 1923 they got a new treaty The Treaty of St. Lausanne. Restrictions on the army had been removed. As well as the restriction on finances. They received most of their European territory back.
