Daily show will speak up and say whats what without having to worry about offending/accuracy. No obligations for daily news, just what is funny. They report politicians when they look stupid, they don’t care about equality if someone does something stupid they will report it.
Concepts:
Journalists should not model themselves after the show since readers actually want serious news. When you blur the line between news and comedy you get more viewers and younger viewers. While it is important to get the news right, it is a burden on journalists. During Hurricane Katrina officials didn’t do much for the suffering citizens but journalists got mad. Global warming was covered 50/50 when in reality it wasn’t that fair. Daily show does fact checking.
