What is the rock cycle Flashcards
What is soil?
Soil is a mixture of clay, sand and rotting vegetation.
What are the parts of soil?
Humus
Topsoil
Subsoil
Rock that has not weathered
bedrock
What is Humus
Humus is the thin rotting vegetation like grass. The nutrients in it return to the soil.
What is a topsoil
Topsoil is the rich layer in the humus where all the cool minerals are and they help the crops
It has too many minerals in them including potassium, phosphorus, calcium and silicon and nitrogen
What is a topsoil
Topsoil is the rich layer in the humus where all the cool minerals are and they help the crops
It has too many minerals in them including potassium, phosphorus, calcium and silicon and nitrogen. The sand helps to make the soil crumbly so the roots spread easily.
What is sub soil?
Tree roots reach this layer.
What is rock that is being weathered?
It’s rock which hasn’t been broken down
What is bedrock
Rock which hasn’t weathered yet.
Is soil dead?
Nah there are bacteria, fungi and insects in them. This is called biodiverse environment
How do Earthworms improve soil.
Earthworms improve the soil. They digest leaves and clay so their waste is rich in nutrients.
How are we related to the soil?
Plants are in the soil, the soil has minerals, we eat plants, and those plants are eaten by animals and then we eat animals as beef and then those minerals in the beef get into us and when we die we get buried in soil/.
Fertilisers:
