What is Science? Flashcards
Empirical
Something that is both observable and testable.
Observation
Becoming aware of a problem that needs to be solved.
Hypothesis
Educated prediction of what you believe to be true.
Experiment
Testing your hypothesis by gathering qualitative and quantitative information
Research
Using reliable sources to learn background information.
Results
The experimental findings you came up with after your experiment is done, often published and shared with others.
Conclusion
A summary of the results of your experiment.
Evidence
Data that can be observed, measured, examined and analyzed to support a conclusion
Inference
An explanation derived by reasoning, ideas that cannot be directly observed–like a really good guess or prediction.
Qualitative Data
Information gathered using words and descriptions rather than numbers.
Quantitative Data
Information gathered that can be counted or expressed with numbers. This is data you can actually graph
Data
All the information gathered during an experiment, both qualitative and quantitative.
Biology
The study of all living things and their interactions.
