what is happening (main body) = patho Flashcards

1
Q

What is happening Compensating?

A

Able to maintain adequate perfusion to vital organs = by shunting blood from the periphery = increase HR, + vascular tone.
Normal appearance, tachy, decreased perfusion, (cool extrities), prolonged cap refill.

Q

What is happening in Decomensating

A

Inadequate perfusion = not able to maintain a normal BP
(Hypotension) = (Late sign =brain, heart, kidneys will shut down)
Tachy = poor peripheral perfusion
Altered appearance = inadequate perfusion of the brain.

Q

Hypovolaemic shock

Loss of fluids

A

Dehydration, Diarrhoea and burns (most common cause)

Lethargic, tachypnoea, pale, mottled, cyanotic, sunken eyes, dry mucous, delayed cap refill, cool extremities.

Q

Distributive shock

Fluids leaking out of the cappilaries into the tissues

A

Septic, Anaphylactic, Neurogeni

Decreased vascular tone, vasodilation and 3rd spacing of fluids ( leaking of plasma out of the blood vessels and into the surrounding tissues )
warm flushed skin, bounding pulse due to the vasodidation

Cardiogenic Shock

Direct poisoning of the myocardium

A

Arrhythmias, Myocardidis, Anything that stuns the heart

lethargic, increased work of breathing (heart failure, pulmonary odeama)
poor circulation (pale, mottled, cyanotic)
abnormal heart rate, clammy
