An empire is a collection of tribes, regions, colonies, territories, states or even countries that are ruled over and controlled by one leader or ‘mother’ country.

Why do countries want empires? Give 4 reasons.
A
- After a war, the winning nation may take over the defeated one and include it in their empire - in a way as a punishment for losing the battle.
- They want more resources and take over other countries to get what they want.
- Others take over countries just to get to stop rivals getting it first.
- Some countries invade other countries because they feel like they have the right to own the country, or felt like they were doing the country a favour by teaching them a new way of life.
