Q

Describe lytic pathway:

A

With lytic phages, bacterial cells are broken open (lysed) and destroyed after immediate replication of the virion. As soon as the cell is destroyed, the phage progeny can find new hosts to infect.

Q

How can a mutation in the non-coding region for DNA can prevent a gene being transcribed

A

A mutation can turn on a gene and cause a protein to be produces in the wrong place or at the wrong time. It can also eliminate the production of an important protein when it is needed.

Q

How are impulses transmitted at synapses

A

The first neuron releases NEUROTRANSMITTERS. This DIFFUSES to the POSTSYNOPTIC NEURON, which stimulates an electrical impulse.

The receptor molecules on the second neuron can only bind to the specific neurotransmitters released from the first neuron.
