- He destroyed and pillaged across the coast to Dover then he pays them to recover the damage to get them on his side

- he wanted to take control of london and get crowned but he coudnt because of the soldiers guarding it
- william defided to burn and pilage towns so edgar Atheling (who was known as the sort of ‘king’) would surrender the capital so that the towns dont suffer he also put salt in the towns soil so no crops could grow

- one time there was a big seige which lasted 18 days in exeter
- in 1069 there was the biggest rebellion. edwin and morcar and 18 year old edgar (the nephew of edward the confessor) 900 normans died

A
william would destroy villages, kill livestock and people, and destorying of crops. this wouldve lasted a whole year. the population was reduced by 75 per cent. he did this to gain control of the country
