What was the square deal?
A series of reforms introduced by Theodore Roosevelt intended to give workers and business owners a fair deal in response to an excess of laissez-faire capitalism
What event led to the creation of the square deal?
In 1902, 50 000 members of the united mine workers of Northern Pennsylvania walked out demanding better working conditions. The owners refused and asked Roosevelt to call the army on them, but Roosevelt refused and threatened to call the army on the owners if they continued to refuse to negotiate.
What did George Pullman do?
He built a village like New Lanark, but it was only intended to prevent labour unrest
What was the national progressive party?
A party founded in 1912 to support sufferage for men and women, workers rights and health care but did not address child poverty, disability housing and education
