By using a larger tip and adjusting the pressures.
What valve should be turned off first when extinguishing a torch?
The acetylene gas valve.
What safety precaution should be taken when gas welding has been completed?
Turn off the valves and relieve all pressure.
What is the result of insufficient penetration?
The weld will be weak.
What must be done with heat-treated aluminum alloys after a welding repair has been made?
It must be reheat treated.
Why is it necessary to use flux in all silver soldering?
To have the base metal chemically clean without the slightest film of oxide.
What type of flame is used for silver soldering?
A neutral flame or slightly reducing flame.
What must be done in the weld zone to successfully weld titanium?
The weld zone must be shielded with an inert gas.
What procedure will control expansion when welding a joint?
Tack welding at intervals along the joint.
What type of repair could be made for a dented steel tube cluster joint?
Weld a formed steel patch plate over the dented area.
What is the preferred method of welding aluminum?
Gas shielded arc welding. (TIG Welding)
What is the preferred method of welding magnesium?
Gas shielded arc welding. (TIG Welding)
Which method of welding is less likely to cause buckling or warping of thin metal sheets?
TIG Welding.
What is a safety hazard associated with welding magnesium?
If ignited it is extremely hard to extinguish.
What are some advantages of Gas Shielded Arc Welding (TIG WELDING)?
Stronger weld, more ductile and more corrosion resistant.
What must be done to a soldering iron tip to increase the amount of heat transferred from the tip to the work?
The tip must be clean and tinned
What technique might be used to enable a tight-fitting inner sleeve to be inserted into a tubular repair?
Chilled the inner tube with dry ice and heat the outter tube with a torch. (antagonic process)
